What is Proposition 1?

On April 7, 2026, Norman voters will decide whether to renew the city’s Street Maintenance Bond Program.

If approved, Proposition 1 will authorize $35 million in bonds over the next five years to repair and improve streets across Norman.

The Street Maintenance Bond Program focuses on projects such as:

  • Street resurfacing and rehabilitation

  • Roadway reconstruction

  • Rural road improvements

  • Preventative maintenance

  • Intersection improvements and related infrastructure

Proposition 1 continues a program Norman voters have supported since 2005 to maintain and improve the city’s transportation infrastructure.

If approved, projects funded through the program would begin in August 2026 and continue through 2031.

Maintaining the Roads Norman
Residents Use Every Day

  • Norman maintains approximately 800 miles of streets throughout the city.

  • Maintaining roads requires consistent investment to ensure streets remain safe and functional for residents, businesses, and visitors.

  • The Street Maintenance Bond Program allows the city to fund major street repairs and improvements across Norman.

  • IMPORTANTLY:

    • Proposition 1 does not create a new tax

    • It continues the existing street maintenance program that voters have approved every five years

    • It helps maintain the city’s transportation infrastructure without increasing the tax rate

By continuing this program, Norman can address roadway needs before conditions worsen and repairs become significantly more expensive.
